The Scottish Licensed Trade Benevolent Society, known as The BEN, celebrated raising a massive £100k at its 42nd annual BEN Dinner.
More than 1,000 guests and members of the trade attended the event at Glasgow’s DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel where they enjoyed a programme of fine dining alongside entertainment from Brigadier David Allfrey and former world professional sprinter George McNeill.
All funds raised at the event go towards the charity’s range of services which help both former and current workers of the licensed trade who are facing difficulties. Whether it’s social, financial or emotional support, The BEN helps anyone, who has worked full-time in the Scottish licensed trade for at least three years.
Commenting on the event, Chris Gardner, The BEN’s chief executive, said: “It’s been another fantastic night and once again we have been overwhelmed by the support shown from our guests in helping us raise this tremendous total. The money raised will be vital in allowing us to continue to provide the support to Scotland’s trade workers and for that we are extremely grateful.
“A big thank you not only goes to our fantastic speakers George and David and supportive members who attended our 42nd dinner but also to everyone that helped make entertaining over 1,000 trade members possible. It’s always great to see so many of Scotland’s industry come together and we’re already looking forward to next year – here’s to making it an even bigger success.”
The BEN’s President, Sue Buchanan, added: “The BEN Dinner is one of our most popular events, as this year proved. An event of this size takes a tremendous amount of planning a number of people put a huge amount of time and effort in to make the night a success, no one more so than our Chief Executive Chris, who I would like to say a big thank you to for another fantastic event.
“We are able to continue our support of Scotland’s trade workers thanks to our fantastic supports and partners and we are looking forward to the year ahead.”
The annual dinner is The BEN’s biggest event and has a significant impact on the support and services it provides to Scotland’s licensed trade. On top of its general support, The BEN also owns the BEN Pitlochry Estate, consisting of 18 bungalows, where it provides accommodation for current and retired members of the industry as well as ‘Respitality’ breaks for carers.
